EDIT: The owner of the business gave me a phone call upon seeing this review on the same day, and explained they are a new business and just starting out. (Perhaps this explains the strange state of three storefronts now connected internally?) They apologized for the poor experience and offered a free massage as recompense. It was a kind and very timely gesture, and I’m happy to edit this review to 5 stars as I have much empathy for the difficulty of getting started. I look forward to giving them another try in the future.
ORIGINAL REVIEW
1) this is connected and the same building as the much lower rated massage business next door.
2) When I first came in, the door was unlocked but no one came to the front desk for 5 minutes. I called out and walked around and no one seemed to be there. I called and made an appointment for 30 minutes later and went grocery shopping nearby.
3) The massage was Fine.
3) The masseuse relentlessly tried to upsell the aromatherapy massage, pitching it 3 times as the massage began despite repeated asks to please stop. I switched to speaking in Chinese and made small talk in an effort to gently get her off the topic, only for her to bring it up continuously for 10 minutes into the massage. She only stopped (and finished the massage in silence) when I said I would prefer to leave if she could not stop upselling and to please do the regular massage I requested.
4) The rest of the massage was Okay. Good attention to the shoulders where I had highlighted as a motivator for seeking a massage (“did you know aromatherapy can help with that?”) There was no music nor sound proofing between rooms, so the underscore to the experience was unfortunately the noise of others walking in and talking to the front desk, and one jarring cell phone ring that the masseuse, to her credit, silenced after one ring.
5) As I was leaving and after I had left the tip, the masseuse could not help herself from yet again pushing the aromatherapy service, saying “it helps with everything, even losing weight! Like on your belly there!” Even accounting for well intentioned Chinese auntie energy here, the whole experience felt a bit out of pocket.
The front desk handed me a punch card for repeat services, but I don’t think I’ll be back.
TLDR: 4 star massage, 1 star customer experience.
Please don’t pressure your massage therapists to upsell so hard (or even if it’s truly genuine and well intentioned of “I think this service would help you!”, if a customer says no thanks repeatedly, please respect that). Please have someone at the front desk during hours you’re open. Please consider investing in a Bluetooth speaker to play ambient sound to help elevate the experience. The details matter, especially when there are so many similar businesses in the area. - Bullet Bob··from Google
